    The Verse

King James Version (KJV): And the LORD said unto Moses, Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hence: when he shall let you go, he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether.

New International Version (NIV): Now the LORD had said to Moses, 'I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt. After that, he will let you go from here, and when he does, he will drive you out completely.'

English Standard Version (ESV): The LORD said to Moses, 'Yet one plague more I will bring upon Pharaoh and upon Egypt. Afterward he will let you go from here. When he lets you go, he will drive you away completely.'

    Introduction

Exodus 11:1 serves as the prelude to one of the most significant events in biblical history—the final plague that leads to the liberation of the Israelites from Egyptian bondage. This verse captures a pivotal moment where God’s promise of deliverance is about to be fulfilled, highlighting His power and faithfulness. For anyone who has felt trapped or oppressed, this passage offers profound hope and assurance that divine intervention is on the way.

    Historical Context

Exodus was written by Moses around 1445-1405 BC during Israel’s journey through the wilderness. The verse takes place in Egypt, where the Israelites have been enslaved for centuries. God’s message to Moses is a declaration of the impending judgment on Pharaoh and Egypt, which would compel Pharaoh to release the Israelites. This event marks the culmination of a series of plagues sent by God to demonstrate His sovereignty and to free His people.

    Key Word Analysis

The word ‘plague’ in Hebrew is ‘nega’, signifying a blow or strike, indicating the severity of what is to come. ‘Thrust you out’ in Hebrew uses the word ‘shalach’, meaning to send away with force, showing Pharaoh’s urgency to rid Egypt of the Israelites. The term ‘altogether’ underscores the completeness of their release, not just a partial freedom.

    Spiritual Insight

This verse reveals God’s unwavering commitment to His promises. Despite the hardness of Pharaoh’s heart, God’s plan for His people’s liberation is unstoppable. It showcases His justice against oppression and His mercy in providing deliverance. It reminds us that God’s power is sufficient to overcome any earthly authority or obstacle.

    Life Application

Modern readers can find hope in knowing that no matter how dire their situation, God can and will intervene at the right time. We are encouraged to trust in His timing and His methods, even when they seem mysterious or delayed. As we face challenges, Exodus 11:1 inspires us to remain patient and steadfast in faith, knowing that God’s deliverance is near.

What Jesus Might Say About This Verse

My child, in your moments of waiting, remember that I am working behind the scenes to bring about your liberation. Just as I delivered the Israelites from bondage, so will I free you from the chains that hold you. Trust in My timing and know that My plans for you are good and perfect. Your freedom is assured, and I am with you every step of the way.

    Prayer Prompt

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise of deliverance. Help me to trust in Your timing and to remain faithful even when I cannot see the way forward. Strengthen my heart to believe in the power of Your intervention in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
