    The Verse

King James Version (KJV): Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God: for every abomination to the LORD, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.

New International Version (NIV): You must not worship the LORD your God in their way, because in worshiping their gods, they do all kinds of detestable things the LORD hates. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods.

English Standard Version (ESV): You shall not worship the LORD your God in that way, for every abominable thing that the LORD hates they have done for their gods, for they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods.

This verse challenges us to examine how we approach our spiritual lives and the influences we allow in. As we delve into this passage, let’s explore how it calls us to purity and wholehearted devotion.

    Historical Context

Deuteronomy is a book that belongs to the Torah, traditionally believed to be authored by Moses around 1400 BCE. Burn in the fire: A direct reference to the heinous practice of child sacrifice, emphasizing the depths of depravity in pagan rituals.

    Spiritual Insight

It calls us to a diligent pursuit of holiness, urging us to root out anything in our lives that contradicts God’s nature.
