    The Verse

King James Version (KJV): Then went he also to Ramah, and came to a great well that is in Sechu: and he asked and said, Where are Samuel and David? And one said, Behold, they be at Naioth in Ramah.

New International Version (NIV): Finally, he himself left for Ramah and went to the great cistern at Seku. And he asked, 'Where are Samuel and David?' 'Over in Naioth at Ramah,' they said.

English Standard Version (ESV): Then he himself went to Ramah and came to the great well that is in Secu. And he asked, 'Where are Samuel and David?' And one said, 'Behold, they are at Naioth in Ramah.'

    Introduction

Imagine being relentlessly pursued by someone with power and influence. This was the reality for David as King Saul sought to find him. 1 Samuel 19:22 captures a moment in this intense pursuit. Saul’s determination to capture David reveals much about human nature and the divine protection over David.

This verse highlights the lengths to which Saul would go in his pursuit, but also hints at the spiritual refuge David found in the presence of God, exemplified by his connection with Samuel.

    Historical Context

The Book of 1 Samuel, part of the Old Testament, was predominantly written during the time after the establishment of the monarchy in Israel. This particular passage occurs during King Saul’s reign, as his jealousy of David grows.
