    The Verse

King James Version (KJV): Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.

New International Version (NIV): More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised.

English Standard Version (ESV): We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised.

    Introduction

In the heart of the Apostle Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians, we encounter a profound examination of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This verse challenges us to consider the weight of our testimony and the implications of bearing false witness. It calls us to reflect on our faith and the foundational truths that underpin it.

    Historical Context

Raised up: ‘Egeiro,’ to awaken or lift up, signifying Christ’s resurrection.

    Spiritual Insight

This verse reveals the critical importance of the resurrection in the Christian faith. It underscores that our witness about God is deeply intertwined with the truth of Jesus’ resurrection, affirming His victory over death and our hope for eternal life.

    Life Application

As modern readers, we are encouraged to examine the foundations of our faith and ensure that our testimony aligns with the truth of Scripture. In our daily lives, we should be diligent in sharing the gospel, rooted in the reality of Christ’s resurrection, and living as witnesses to His transformative power.
