Daniel, a prophet and statesman during the Babylonian and Persian empires, wrote this book around the 6th century BCE. This particular chapter describes a vision occurring in the third year of King Belshazzar’s reign. The vision foretells events that span far beyond Daniel’s time, focusing on the rise and fall of empires and the end times. The setting is one of turmoil and anticipation, as the Jewish people are in exile and Daniel continues to intercede for them.
