    The Verse

King James Version (KJV): With the work of an engraver in stone, like the engravings of a signet, shalt thou engrave the two stones with the names of the children of Israel: thou shalt make them to be set in ouches of gold.

New International Version (NIV): Engrave the names of the sons of Israel on the two stones the way a gem cutter engraves a seal. Then mount the stones in gold filigree settings.

English Standard Version (ESV): As a jeweler engraves signets, so shall you engrave the two stones with the names of the sons of Israel. You shall enclose them in settings of gold filigree.

    Introduction

The beauty of craftsmanship is timeless, and its significance is seen in the Bible through detailed divine instructions. Exodus 28:11 captures the essence of skilled work used in a sacred context, highlighting how art and faith can intertwine. This verse invites us to delve into the meaning and purpose behind the design of the priestly garments worn by Aaron, the high priest, signifying his role and the presence of God among the people.

    Historical Context

Moses, under the guidance of God, received instructions for the construction of the Tabernacle and the making of priestly garments during the Israelites’ journey through the wilderness, around 1446-1406 BC. These garments, particularly those for the high priest, were rich in symbolism and signified the covenant between God and His people. The detailed craftsmanship was a testament to the honor and reverence due to sacred service.
