    The Verse

King James Version (KJV): And take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your sacks, carry it again in your hand; peradventure it was an oversight:

New International Version (NIV): Take double the amount of silver with you, for you must return the silver that was put back into the mouths of your sacks. Perhaps it was a mistake.

English Standard Version (ESV): Take double the money with you. Carry back with you the money that was returned in the mouth of your sacks—perhaps it was an oversight.

    Introduction

Genesis 43:12 is nestled within the dramatic story of Joseph and his brothers. Jacob’s family is facing famine, and the pressure is on to sustain life as they know it. In this compelling narrative, we witness an act of faith and integrity when Jacob instructs his sons to take double the money back to Egypt. This decision not only reflects honesty but also a hope that transcends human understanding, acknowledging that oversight and divine providence might be at play.

This particular verse is set in the context of Joseph’s rise to power in Egypt and his brothers’ journey to purchase grain during a severe famine.
