King James Version (KJV): And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.

New International Version (NIV): Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house.

    Introduction

In our daily hustle, the concept of earning one’s keep resonates deeply. Luke 10:7 speaks directly to this principle, offering a profound insight into the value of labor and the divine provision for those who serve.

This verse, nestled within the instructions Jesus gave to His disciples, highlights the importance of receiving graciously and recognizing the worth of one’s efforts in the service of God’s Kingdom.

    Historical Context

Luke 10:7 was written by Luke, a physician, and companion of Paul, around AD 60-61. This verse is part of Jesus’ instructions to the seventy-two disciples He sent out to preach. In a time when hospitality was crucial, Jesus emphasized the importance of accepting support from those they ministered to, reflecting the customs and expectations of hospitality in the ancient Near East.
